
WHEN: 1880 - 1938
SUMMARY: Completed in 1880, the Central Nevada Railroad was a narrow gauge line that ran 90 miles between Austin and Battle Mountain Nevada. Its main purpose was to deliver silver ore from Austin to the Transcontinential Railroad locaed in Battle Mountain, Nevada.
However, the silver boom in Austin was mostly over by 1887, a few years before the railroad was completed.
When the railroad wasn't delivering ore from the mines, it moved cattle from nearby ranches and also delivered mail, The Central Nevada Railroad was closed in 1938, and the tracks removed shortly thereafter.
