SUMMARY: Mount Patterson is the highest peak in the Sweetwater Mountain range with an elevation at 11,654 feet.

The nickname “Mars with Flowers” for Mount Patterson (and the high-elevation terrain of the Sweetwater Mountains) comes from the striking contrast between its stark, rocky alpine landscape and the surprising patches of wildflowers that bloom there. It is a one of kind place to visit.

Mining took place on the slopes of Mt. Patterson in the 1880's with the notable towns of Belfort, Clinton, and Kentuck being established. Both Belfort and Clinton had post offices.
