SUMMARY: Over 250,000 pioneers journeyed along the California Immigrant Trail, traversing Nevada before reaching California.
The tragic stabbing of John Snyder by James Reed, a member of the infamous Donner-Reed party, is reported to have occurred at this location in 1846. The group would go on to banish Reed from the group and was forced to continue to California alone.
The group ultimately found themselves trapped in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and resorted to cannibalism as a means of survival in what is now known as Donner Pass.
Iron Point also served as a settlement along the Southern Pacific Railroad had its own post office at different times.
